THE UMI STORY

THE UMI STORY

Umi opened on Park Avenue on February 2, 2015. Behind Umi are Susie and François Lorin, whose life together has been shaped by art, travel, and the pleasure of welcoming people. Long before the restaurant opened, Susie dealt with antiques. François later joined her in the business. For decades, they sought out Chinese, Korean, and Japanese works of art, traveling the world, meeting collectors, and learning the stories behind the objects. That shared history has found a home at Umi. Together, they have helped give this Japanese restaurant a character of its own, rooted in the belief that good food and generous hospitality belong together.
A KOREAN ACCENT

A KOREAN ACCENT

Umi is a Japanese restaurant, but its personality has also been shaped by Susie’s Korean heritage. That influence appears selectively in marinades, fermented flavors, kimchi, gochujang and dishes such as bulgogi and Kimchi Croquettes.
AT HOME ON PARK AVENUE

AT HOME ON PARK AVENUE

Umi sits at the southern entrance to Park Avenue, across from the gates of Rollins College. The location brings together many parts of Winter Park life: a weekday lunch, an evening after shopping, dinner before an event, visiting family, familiar friends and tables gathered for a celebration. Umi’s place on Park Avenue is not simply an address, it is part of the restaurant’s identity.
